Oh hey, how are ya - itâs Fourth Co.
Everyday, about 150,000 new songs are released to the world.
That means, thereâs been over 706,650,000 tracks released since Snoop Dogg briefly changed is name to Snoop Lion.
Only a handful of those deserve your attention, so letâs pitter patterâŚ
Steal This - my most played song this week (probably):
Why it gets me going - Now Iâm sure weâve all heard the original. And typically I would never listen to a liquified breakbeat type groove like this. But ugh, it just flows so right. This Jungle edit paradoxically feels light yet so heavy at the same time. Those neo-soul chord progressions floating atop those fat 808 sub kicks against Tyler and Kaliâs vocals make this an infectious ear worm. Who knew a jungle beat could come in the form of a musical oxymoron. Hallelujah!
Notable News - 4 things:
Brace yourselves, Spotify Wrappedâs will be hitting your feeds at any moment now - everybody likes to feel special because theyâre the center of their own universe. And while music is arguably the highest emotive art form, most people couldnât give 2 sh*ts what some random nerd from their high school streamed last year. More interestingly, I recently saw something that said Spotifyâs executives cashed out over $1.1 billion USD of stock this year. To put that in perspective, I would have to earn 314 billion streams to match those earnings in royalties. Taylor Swift (ever heard of her?) is the most streamed artist of all-time with around 95 billion total streams. In other words, sheâs not even close to getting the Spotify C-Suite streaming bag. AwkwardâŚ
Black Friday has now come and gone, and music producers around the world are left scratching their heads as to why they bought more useless plugins that they oh so desperately needed - as the years have past (almost 13 to be exact) of me producing music, Iâve come to learn that the entire music production software industry is a money grab to sell you more and more useless virtual junk. Now this hot-take also applies to all of you who crack illegal software, because youâre also taking up space on your hard drive with disease infested garbage. If I could go back in time, Iâd tell my younger Fourth Co. self, âjust master the stock plugins and save your money on more important things like $24 espresso martinis for your hinge dates.â Now thatâs what I call money well spent.
Coachellaâs 2025 lineup is making history, but you already knew that - the worldâs biggest music festival (probably) is happening again this year (shocker) in historic fashion (just like last year, and the year before that, and so on). According to YourEDM, festival-goers are heavily encouraged to buy tickets for the second weekend, in order âincrease their chances of receiving a pass.â After the Formula 1 debacle in Las Vegas this past weekend, where high-priced tickets were over sold and people were unable to attend the race, youâd think these multi-billion dollar mega events could keep track of how many sales they make. But the biggest, history-in-the-making Coachella headline I saw is that, this year, the VIP area will include âflushable toilets.â Wow, they really are revolutionizing things over there!
Want to go out dancing but dread getting home at 3:57am - Dusk Dance Music has you covered. As one of the hottest new event series in Chicago, witness a live and intimate showcase of new and established artists swirling around the underground scene in the city that invented House music. With only a few weeks left in 2024, DDM will be hosting free shows in the bassment of the Everything Bar for the remaining Thursdays this year. Who doesnât love a good free show with an easy âyesâ RSVP that doesnât go any later than 12:30am. Also, I thought it would be a good idea to include those rsvp links to share with anybody interested:
